Preventative Health Screenings
As part of our health fairs and wellness expos, CHWP contracts with medical professionals that will perform free health screenings for your employees.
Did You Know?
The United States has one of the fastest growth rates in health spending, tripling our expenditures since 1990. (National-Health Expend Data 2007)
The United States spends significantly more on health care than any other nation. Our health care expenditure was over $7,000 per person, more than twice the average of 29 other developed countries. (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; 2008)
Average life expectancy in the United States is far below many other nations that spend less on health care each year. As a nation, more than 75% of our health care spending is on people with chronic conditions. About one-fourth of people with chronic conditions have one or more daily activity limitations. (John Hopkins University; 2004)
Heart disease, high blood pressure and cancer—the nation’s leading causes of death and disability—leave in their wake deaths that could have been prevented, lifelong disability, compromised quality of life and burgeoning health care costs.
- 7 out of 10 deaths among Americans each year are from chronic diseases.
- In 2005, 133 million Americans—almost 1 out of every 2 adults—had at least one chronic illness. (National Vital Statistics Reports 2008)
Now is the time for your employees to learn about any possible health risks. Health screenings are often responsible for preventing chronic illness or even death. However, if it requires adding a task in our time-starved schedules, working people naturally just put these on the bottom of the to do list until a more convenient time.
Ask your CHWP coordinator what types of free health screenings you can include at your next health fair.
